What is Satellite SOS?
Satellite SOS is an advanced emergency service introduced with the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 15, and iPhone 15 Pro. This feature allows users to send emergency messages when they are outside of cellular and Wi-Fi coverage by connecting directly to satellites. This capability ensures that users can reach emergency services even in remote or isolated areas where traditional communication methods are unavailable.
How Satellite SOS Works
o use Emergency SOS via satellite, you must be outside with a clear view of the sky. When you activate this feature, your iPhone connects to a satellite to send a distress signal, share your location, and communicate critical information. The service is available free for two years after activation and supports text messaging with emergency services, including location details and Medical ID information. For a detailed guide on using this feature, refer to Emergency SOS via Satellite.
Stay Connected & Safe
Before venturing into areas with no mobile or Wi-Fi coverage, you can prepare by trying the Emergency SOS via satellite demo and setting up your Medical ID and emergency contacts in the Health app. If your iPhone or Apple Watch detects a severe accident and you’re unresponsive, it may automatically use Emergency SOS via satellite to contact emergency services. This feature supports a range of languages and notifies emergency contacts with a live transcript or text alerts, depending on their device and iOS version.
