A year after launch, some iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models have been identified that their earpiece speaker may fail. According to Apple, the no sound service program affects iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro devices that were manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021 but may include devices sold after those dates.
Only a small percentage of devices made during those dates should see the speaker failure but that could still mean hundreds of thousands of devices may be impacted.
The no sound issue stems from a failure that can occur in the earpiece module of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models but not the iPhone 12 mini or iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Check Your iPhone 12 Eligibility
If your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro does not emit sound from the earpiece speaker when you make or receive calls, it may be eligible for service.
iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max models are not part of this program and the program covers affected iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro devices for 2 years after the first retail sale of the unit and does not extend the standard warranty.
More Details
There is no serial number check for this program so you will need to reach out to Apple Support to verify if your iPhone is covered under this program.
The program only covers the affected iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro devices for 2 years after the sale of the device so will not cover the failure after the normal warranty period.
The service program affects devices worldwide and Apple also notes if your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro has any damage which impairs the ability to complete the repair, such as a cracked screen, that issue will need to be resolved prior to the service. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the additional repair.
You can find the official service program page here.
