The Camera Control feature on iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max is designed to enhance your photography experience by providing quick access to your camera and essential settings. Located conveniently on the side of your device, the Camera Control allows you to open the camera effortlessly and adjust key features to capture the perfect shot or video.

Opening The Camera

To access the camera using the Camera Control, simply click the button. This action launches the Camera app, enabling you to start taking photos or videos immediately. If you want to capture a photo, click the Camera Control again. To record a video, click and hold the button. If your camera is set to Video mode upon launch, a single click will initiate recording directly.

Adjustable Settings

One of the standout features of the Camera Control is the ability to adjust various settings quickly. Here’s a closer look at the settings you can modify:

  • Exposure: Adjust the brightness of your scene by increasing or decreasing the exposure.
  • Depth: Control the background depth-of-field effect, allowing you to switch to Portrait mode seamlessly.
  • Zoom: Zoom in or out to frame your shot perfectly.

Selecting & Adjusting Settings

To select and adjust settings with the Camera Control, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Camera Control to open the Camera app.
  2. Lightly press the Camera Control twice to reveal an overlay of available settings for the current camera mode.
  3. Slide your finger across the Camera Control to scroll through the available options, then lightly press to select a setting.
  4. Adjust the chosen setting by sliding your finger along the control, and the adjustment will be saved for future use.

To take your shot, simply click the Camera Control once more.

Customising the Click Method

You have the flexibility to change how you open the Camera app using the Camera Control. Navigate to Settings > Camera > Camera Control to choose between a single click or double click to launch the Camera. This customisation can enhance your efficiency based on your preferences.

Opening Other Apps

The Camera Control doesn’t have to be limited to launching the Camera app. You can set it to open alternative applications, such as the Magnifier app or the Code Scanner, by following these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Camera.
  2. Tap on Camera Control.
  3. Choose your preferred option:
  • Camera: Opens the Camera app.
  • Code Scanner: Launches the QR code scanner.
  • Magnifier: Activates the Magnifier app.
  • None: No app opens when the Camera Control is clicked.

This versatility allows you to tailor the functionality of the Camera Control to suit your needs.

Accessibility Options

For users who require additional support, accessibility options for the Camera Control can be adjusted. You can modify the pressure required to activate the control or the speed for double-press actions. To do this, refer to the accessibility settings specific to your device.
